Soundbox (ADPM): Registration and Compliance

Distinguish an amplifier, speaker, microphone, earphone and multifunction audio device. Input power, internal power sources and wireless or network interfaces affect the technical scope.

• Product family: Audio equipment.
• Schemes to assess: BIS CRS registration, E-waste EPR registration.
• BIS category reference: Automatic Data Processing Machine.
• Application scope: confirm the actual model, factory, brand and the responsible business for each scheme.

• Record rated input power and supply ratings separately from advertised audio output.
• Identify wired/wireless interfaces, battery packs, charging circuits and supplied adapters.
• List speaker drivers, amplifier configurations and construction differences between models.
• Describe any display, conferencing or computing function that could change classification.

Plan market entry for Soundbox (ADPM) by reviewing product safety, your role in the supply chain and any environmental, radio or energy-labelling requirements. Each scheme has its own applicant, evidence and approval; one registration does not cover the others.

• BIS CRS registration — reference: IS/IEC 62368-1:2023. Confirm coverage against the authority's current product scope and the actual model.
• E-waste EPR registration. Confirm coverage against the authority's current product scope and the actual model.

A commercial description can cover more than one configuration. Check the complete equipment, its supplied power adapter and battery, radio interfaces and intended use before deciding the final approval set.

The product reference for Soundbox (ADPM) is IS/IEC 62368-1:2023. The laboratory must confirm the precise part, edition, amendments and any additional requirements applicable to the model before accepting the test request.

IS/IEC 62368-1:2023 addresses safety of audio/video, information and communication technology equipment. Safety assessment considers the equipment's energy sources and safeguards. Existing licences referring to IS 13252 or IS 616 need the applicable migration instructions; an older standard number on a report is not sufficient evidence that a new application can use it.

BIS issues the registration licence. MeitY or another notifying ministry sets the relevant product order; the laboratory performs testing. These roles should be distinguished when checking a certificate or preparing an application.

Official BIS product list and standards

Indian manufacturers

The actual manufacturer of Soundbox (ADPM) prepares the CRS application for the manufacturing location, product category, brand and models. The factory identity in the application must agree with the test report and supporting documents.

Foreign manufacturers and the Authorised Indian Representative

An overseas manufacturer must meet BIS representation requirements and nominate an eligible Authorised Indian Representative where required. Prepare the nomination, undertakings and signatory authority before testing so factory and representative details remain consistent.

Importers

An importer should obtain the manufacturer's valid registration details and check that the supplying factory, brand and exact models are within its scope. Buying from a registered supplier does not establish approval for every item in that supplier's catalogue. An importer may act as AIR only when properly nominated and eligible.

Traders, distributors and marketplace sellers

A reseller does not obtain the manufacturer's CRS approval merely by opening a seller account or becoming a distributor. Keep the licence, model-scope evidence and supplier invoices, verify the registration status and check the product marking before listing or supplying the equipment.

Factory, brand and applicant documents

• Government-issued business or manufacturing document showing the factory's legal name, address and manufacturing activity; provide an appropriate English translation when needed.
• Brand ownership or authorised-use evidence, with trademark documents where applicable.
• Applicant and authorised signatory details, declarations, undertakings and the manufacturer’s contact details.
• AIR nomination and supporting representative documents for an overseas manufacturer where required.

Product and testing file

• Technical specification and model list for Soundbox (ADPM), including a model-comparison sheet explaining construction and rating differences.
• User manual, product and internal photographs, proposed rating label and packaging artwork.
• Circuit schematic, PCB layout and critical component list as needed for the product and laboratory assessment.
• Component specifications and approvals, including the power supply, mains cord, protection devices and battery where relevant.
• Verified test report from a BIS-recognised laboratory for the correct category and applicable standard.

Use the current BIS application checklist for the final upload set. Product-specific tests or a query raised during scrutiny may require additional evidence.

1. Classify Soundbox (ADPM): confirm the notified product category, current Indian Standard, model variants and any separate component or additional scheme requirements.
2. Set up the manufacturer profile: establish the factory identity, brand and authorised signatory on the CRS portal. Complete AIR arrangements where applicable.
3. Prepare the technical file and model grouping: agree the representative test configuration and sample needs with a laboratory recognised for the required scope.
4. Generate the test request on the portal, select the laboratory and submit the required samples with the request details and identification.
5. Complete testing: respond to laboratory requests and resolve construction or documentation issues. A failed sample may need design correction and retesting.
6. Review and verify the laboratory report: reconcile model names, ratings, factory address, brand and standard. The official CRS workflow requires application using the verified report within 90 days of issue.
7. Submit the licence application through the CRS portal with the test-report reference, declarations, supporting documents and applicable fee. Retain the acknowledgment.
8. Answer BIS scrutiny queries: provide the requested clarifications through the prescribed process. BIS decides whether to grant the licence.
9. Check the grant and prepare supply: verify approved models and scope, apply the required marking, and keep the approval and supporting records available for continuing compliance.

Official CRS registration workflow

Official online licence application instructions

The sample for Soundbox (ADPM) must represent the construction submitted for approval. Confirm the number of samples, accessories, firmware or operating modes, laboratory recognition and available test scope before dispatch.

• Provide every accessory needed to operate the sample safely during evaluation, including the intended power supply and user instructions.
• Use the applicable series guidelines to decide which models can be covered by one test programme; do not assume a fixed model count applies to every category.
• Document changes in enclosure material, power rating, circuitry, display, battery, radio modules or safety-critical components.
• Check separately whether bundled adapters, cells or batteries require their own approvals.
• Allow for corrective work and retesting if the submitted construction does not satisfy the standard.

A CE marking, overseas test certificate or report for another manufacturer's factory does not by itself replace the report required by the CRS application route.

Use the BIS Standard Mark and registration number according to the approved scope and current marking requirements. Check the model, brand, ratings and identification details against the test report and licence before printing labels or packaging.

• Ensure the product supplied is the approved model from the approved manufacturing location.
• Apply the required marking in a visible, legible and durable manner using the applicable standard and BIS instructions.
• Check the licence status and scope before import, dispatch or an online listing.
• Assess proposed model, brand, factory and critical-component changes through the appropriate BIS process.

The BIS notice on the 2026 revised Scheme II provisions describes an initial five-year licence and renewal for a further five years, with fees payable annually. The licence's actual grant conditions and subsequent amendments remain relevant to your case.

Keep a calendar for annual fee payment, production information, renewal and any standard-transition deadlines. The notice explains that failure to pay annual fees and provide production details by the due date can affect continued operation of the licence.

Official inclusion and renewal information

Prepare an itemised budget covering laboratory testing, official application and annual charges, sample shipment, any retesting, AIR arrangements where relevant and professional support. Separate approvals such as EPR, WPC, TEC or BEE have their own scope and costs.

The timeline for Soundbox (ADPM) depends on the final category, sample readiness, laboratory availability, test outcome and completeness of the application. Agree the test slot and document review first; a fixed approval promise before the technical review can overlook retesting or authority queries.

• Before testing: finalise the model list, brand, factory proof and sample configuration.
• During testing: resolve queries quickly and document any construction corrections.
• Before filing: verify the report and submit within the applicable report-age requirement.
• During scrutiny: assign responsibility for answering queries and maintaining the portal record.

• Different factory names or addresses on the business document, test report and application.
• An incorrect product category, superseded standard or missing implementation requirement.
• Models grouped together without evidence that they meet the applicable series criteria.
• Missing brand authority, AIR nomination or signatory documents.
• A report that is too old when the application is submitted, or a report with unresolved model/rating discrepancies.
• Sample construction that changes after testing without a documented assessment.

Supplying a notified product without the required approval, or outside the approved scope, can lead to enforcement action. Verify the applicable requirements before placing an order or releasing stock.

E-waste registration concerns the business placing covered electrical and electronic equipment on the Indian market and its role under the E-Waste (Management) Rules. It is separate from the manufacturer's BIS safety approval. Manufacturers, producers, recyclers and refurbishers have distinct registration roles; producer EPR obligations should not be assigned indiscriminately to every entity.

The product-category reference to assess for Soundbox (ADPM) is CEEW12. Match the exact equipment description to Schedule I and the current CPCB portal category. A commercial family can contain products with different codes; confirm the classification before calculating obligations.

Review whether the business manufactures and sells equipment under its own brand, sells another manufacturer's equipment under its own brand, or imports covered equipment. Also check exclusions and amendments that affect the entity and product. A foreign manufacturer's BIS licence does not by itself satisfy an Indian producer's environmental registration duties.

CPCB E-waste Rules, 2022 — local PDF

CPCB e-waste registration portal

• Company incorporation or business constitution documents, PAN, GST details and the authorised signatory's appointment and contact information, as requested by the portal.
• Import-export details where applicable, registered office and operating addresses, and the business's role for each brand.
• Product descriptions, applicable EEE categories and codes, model/brand information and specifications for Soundbox (ADPM).
• Category-wise quantities and weights placed on the market, supported by sales/import records for the reporting periods required by CPCB.
• Supporting declarations, applicable authorisations and information for the selected entity role. A recycler or refurbisher may require facility and consent information that is not a universal producer document.

Reconcile the legal entity, brands and category data before filing. Do not enter an estimated product weight or an unrelated equipment code simply to complete the form.

1. Identify the entity role and determine whether the equipment is covered by the rules and which Schedule I category applies.
2. Create the appropriate account on the CPCB e-waste portal and prepare the entity, signatory, brand and product records.
3. Enter the requested category-wise market-placement information and upload supporting documents and declarations.
4. Submit the application with the applicable payment and retain its acknowledgment.
5. Address scrutiny queries and correct inconsistencies; CPCB decides whether to grant registration for the requested scope.
6. After registration, maintain category-wise records and fulfil the applicable reporting and EPR requirements through the prescribed portal mechanism.

Registration and fulfilment of recycling obligations are different tasks. Producers meet assigned EPR obligations through the authorised certificate mechanism; registration alone is not evidence that annual obligations have been discharged.

Producers, including covered importers and brand owners

Maintain the required market-placement records, review assigned EPR obligations, obtain eligible EPR certificates through the prescribed mechanism and file the required returns. Check reporting periods, category mapping and certificate balances on the current portal.

Manufacturers

Complete the applicable manufacturer registration and manage e-waste arising from manufacturing as required. A manufacturer that also meets the definition of producer must assess that role separately.

Recyclers and refurbishers

Use the registration category for the activity actually performed and obtain applicable facility consents or permissions. Maintain records and returns for material processed. The generation of recycling certificates and any refurbishment-related treatment follow their respective rules and portal procedures.
